Abel Ferrara’s 4:44 Last Day on Earth is a stunning portrait of a hysterical male narcissist’s inability to save his own ass, let alone the world’s. Autobiographical? Patriarchal go-to gurus Al Gore, Dalai Lama, Joseph Campbell provide predictable talking-head filler, as auteur milks his one bankable concept: show the young actress undressing. Good performances by Pat Kiernan, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Hipp, and a designer bohemian artist’s loft in Manhattan. SF Indie Fest, February 9-23, 2012 at the fabulous Roxie Cinema, 3177 16th Street, in the Mission District of San Francisco.
