The lone Australian entry in SF Indie Fest, Snowtown is structured as an initiation into sexual humiliation, torture, and murder as a cure for homosexual panic. We voyeurize a young simpleton’s fall from innocence at the hands of a puckish fiend. This film, itself a charismatic bully, offers a jaw-droppingly vérité rendering of a family of Outback morons, immersing us in their braindead lifestyle. Technically astute until the Grand Guignol in the bathtub, this reenactment of a true crime will be best enjoyed by the depraved. Tonight and Wednesday, 2/15. SF Indie Fest, February 9-23, at the fabulous Roxie Cinema, 3117 16th Street, in the Mission District of San Francisco.
